Press Release
HOUSTON – October 10, 2008 – Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt wants to inform the public that the Harris County Tax Office has received nearly 100,000 voter registration applications this week. These 97,800 voter registration applications are currently being processed and the Harris County Tax Office Voter Registration Department is working diligently to get every eligible voter on the voter roll. The total number of registered voters as of today is nearly 1.92 million. “Keeping the October 6th deadline to register to vote was the right decision for our community, as approximately 97,800 voter registration applications were handed into the Tax Office this week,” said Bettencourt. “The Harris County community showed that despite Hurricane Ike, they were ready to get registered to vote in mass. We’ll have everyone eligible on the voter roll ready to vote by November 4th,” Bettencourt added. Bettencourt’s office received 245 voter registration applications alone in the ‘Drop Box’ that was placed at 1001 Preston on Monday, October 6th until midnight. Voters can check the status of their voter registration at www.hcvoter.net or by calling 713-368-VOTE. |
